Appointments

Urgent appointments

If your problem is urgent we have a number of same day appointments available to book from 8am. These are offered based on clinical priority and not first come first served.

To request an urgent appointment, please call Main Site Abbey Lane 0114 274 0017 or Branch Site Baslow Road 0114 236 5090 before 10:30 AM.

If your problem is not deemed to be urgent, you will be asked to book a routine appointment.

Routine appointments

You can request a routine appointment in advance by either phoning the surgery on Main Site Abbey Lane 0114 274 0017 or Branch Site Baslow Road 0114 236 5090 or contacting us online with Accurx.

Using Accurx gives us more information about your problem which can then by assessed by an appropriate team member.

We will respond to requests within 2 working days.

You can also:

  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App) or SystmOnline to book an appointment, screening test or vaccination

We will respond within 2 working days during opening times.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Length of appointments

All doctors appointments are 10 minutes long to deal with 1 issue only. If you have several problems you will need to make another appointment at a different time.

The doctors get very busy and cannot deal with more than 1 problem per consultation as other patients need to be seen.

20 minute appointments are at the doctors request only.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you are unable to keep an appointment, please let us know as soon as possible, this may enable someone else to be seen.

To cancel your appointment:

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

House visits are only available for patients who are genuinely housebound because of illness or disability. Lack of transport or weather conditions are not reasons for home visits.

Whenever possible please try to call reception before 10am if you feel you require a home visit. A doctor or a nurse will phone you first to assess the issue and then decide whether a visit is clinically necessary. In some cases, telephone advice may be appropriate or the clinician might decide that hospital attendance is the best course of action.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery.
